Amazing Grace

I thought this movie was very boring and it was much too sentimental for my taste, so I don’t have much to say about it. There were a few nice outfits but most of the movie was about men dressed in simple dark suits.

One more picture after the cut.

I loved this film, I thought it was very moving (but I can see how it can come across as sentimental and at times a bit dull) Those two costumes on Romola Garai you posted were gorgeous, I wish we saw her character more :) (btw I love your blog!)

What lush costumes! I haven’t seen this film, but I think I may check it out even if just for the costumes. I love your blog, I’ve just discovered it, along with Wordpress, and am working on a blog for my 18th century band, which may well end up replacing the main website. I’ve added this blog as one of our links, hope you dont mind. If you’d like to visit me there it’s http://ladygeorgianna.wordpress.com/

I definitely don’t mind. Thank you!

Any movie concerning the abolition of the slave trade cannot be categorized as ‘boring.’ Perhaps costume-wise the film failed to produce creative costumes, but the dark suits were there for a reason. The film’s directors obviously did not want to distract audiences from the messages and meaning. Besides, late 18th century England did not have the best taste in fashion. The French were far more interesting and lovely with their choices of clothing than the British.

Of course any movie can be unentertaining. People do have varying tastes you know ;) I’m sure lots of people love it though, just not my kind of movie.

Boring, my foot! Even after 2 years, Amazing Grace is one of my favorite movies. There is a lot of humor in that movie, although you might have to look for it. If you’re like me, it’ll jump out at you. Some of the humor is in the matchmaking, the private jokes, and the playful banter between all the characters. There is also a lot of thinking involved in it. To top it all off, Wilberforce went through a crap-load of paperwork, nightmares, and pain just to get that bill passed, and when it finally is, it feels like you’re graduating high school all over again.
