I love these! The very first one is beautiful.

What a lovely place you have here. Would you mind if I linked to you?

Thank you! I don’t mind at all!

Hi I just wanted to say that when I was looking up 18th century art and fashion I happened across your blog and I’m in love with all this assortment of art that you’ve posted. I’m a huge Elisabeth Vigee Lebrun fan (did a research paper on Marie Antoinette years ago and learned about the female artist in the process) and thanks to your blog I’m a Garnier and Roslin fan as well. Thank you for these posts of beautiful artwork! : )

You’re welcome! Roslin and Garnier are amazing and I’m happy to have spread the word about them :D

Hi, your blog is so cute. I love this period of the XVIII century. Excuse for my english.

Oh my goodness! These dresses are so lavishly beautiful! Thank you for posting these Johanna, I’ve always been a bit fascinated by the 17th century. I’m so glad I found your blog! :)

Hi

I wonder if you could help me with the following : I am looking for a copy of a portrait of Madame Lisabeth by Labille-Guiard painted in 1789. She is represented with the atributes of art ans science (books, music, globe…)
I have seen (on the net) it but don’t remember where.
Perhaps you know ?

Thanks

I’m afraid I can’t find anything, and I don’t remember having seen it before. Do you mean Madame Elisabeth the sister of Louis XVI? Have you checked this site? http://www.ladyreading.net/labille-guiard/home.ht…

HELLO,
What a beautifull discovery, i love this site but i wouldlike to have men;s gentilhomme fashion suggestion. I want to start a gentleman club 1755-1763.
You are a reference … thanks !!!

The painting called “Mme Elisabeth and her son” : what do you mean ? Mme Elisabeth was the sister of the king Louis XVI of France, husband of the queen Marie-Antoinette. Mme Elisabeth refused to marry herself because she prefered stay belong her brother for life. So the painting title is wrong.

I think I found the title on a site about Adélaïde Labille-Guiard and for some reason never thought twice about it, but you’re right of course, she never had children. I’ll edit the blog post.
