Oh, my. Just when I was getting on my 18thC groove, there was a great behemoth of a piano! Ack! Surely there are harpsichord rentals available!

I think grand pianos existed in the 18th century, I don’t know how they looked though.

I`ve just been looking at some clips on youtube of a 1986 film adoptation of Mozart`s opera Mitridite. It is beautifully filmed and the music and stage props
are amazing.Johanna I wonder what you think of the costumes?

I’m afraid I haven’t seen it, and I can’t find it on Youtube.

I`m just after re-checking the details. You`ll find it if you go to Youtube music and type in the following:-
Mozart`s Mitridate:”Al destin,che la minaccia”

I found it! I think the costumes are very beautiful, but most of them not very historically accurate. I don’t think that was what they were going for though.

Yes,I thought you might say that, they are not very accurate. What I loved though was the combination of the costumes, the set and the music.I think the black dress was influence by the paper flower collages of Mrs Delany, the great chronicler of social life in Georgian Ireland and Britain. Her writings were my introduction to the eighteenth-century.

Definitely a very good combination! And I very much enjoyed the costumes. Accuracy is not always everything :)
