The most infuriating thing about rococo costume is finding good how-to’s on hair! Especially as it’s the most unusual thing about it, it’s rather odd. Particularly info on the pads people used to arrange the hair on, or how they did it. Does anyone know of any sites?

I actually made a tutorial on how I made my wig ( http://farm1.static.flickr.com/194/521531011_70c8… ), maybe I should post it here on the blog. It’s not made with 18th century methods, especially since 18th century girls usually didn’t really use wigs, but the result is good. I know that at first people used pads stuffed with wool or horsehair, but they were too heavy and induced headaches so hollow wire structures were used instead later on.

That’s really useful! Some of those extremely big wigs certainly look like they’d hurt a lot. Particularly the ones with galleons balanced on top. :P
I found an old book a bit ago with a lot of odd rococo hairstyles, I’ll try to scan them when I dig it out.
