Could anyone tell me where the painting by Alexander Roslin that is supposed to Madame de Lamballe is to be found - i.e. which museum? I’d be so grateful.
Jules

I found the painting in a book about Roslin and it probably said in the book where you can find the painting, but it was a library book so I cant check it right now. If I find the book again I’ll let you know :) I would guess it’s somewhere in Sweden though.

Thank you so much, Johanna!
I love Roslin and am astonished that so little of his work is available on the web. Although I live in Hong Kong I am seriously thinking of going to Stockholm just to see the Roslin exhibition. It is amazing that so much is available on Mme Vigee-Lebrun (whose work is a somewhat saccharine, and whose paintings are often second rate) when a master portraitist such as Roslin deserves to be so much better known. You are welcome! Roslin really is one of the best 18th century artists.

I have an oil painting entitled “Stranded” and it is supposedly by an artist named Roslin. Could you tell me if Alexander Roslin may have been the Rosllin who painted?

Thank you,
William Locke

It seems highly unlikely that an original Roslin painting would go undiscovered like that, him being such a very famous artist, but you should ask an 18th century art specialist and not me :)

Who is The Martineau Family in the painting on this web site, and are they from Paris 1780’s?
This may be some of my ancestors, on e of them was a Barron..

Michael Martineau

I’m afraid i don’t know anything more about them, but they are most probably french and very likely Parisian since Roslin worked in Paris, and the painting is definitely in a 1780s style.

Hello,

I absolutely adore your web page! Do you have a myspace page, an
e-mail address where I can write to you?

I hope you’re having a nice weekend!

Best wishes,

hermosos retratos!!

Very beautiful Paintings !
Thanks God for the beautiful Paintings…

I have 3 Cameo Creations does anyone know what they are worth ?? or where I can find out.

Thanks,
Jenny1432

Jenny: I researched the cameo creations a while ago since someone else asked the same thing. Apparently they’re not really worth anything but there are some collectors who like to buy them at flea markets and such. If you do an ebay search you see the prices are very low and pretty much none of the auctions have any bidders: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=cameo+creations&…=

Roslin var så bra att till och med Boucher bad om hans hjälp till ett porträtt av Madame de Pompadour.
